A lot has happened in the past couple of weeks. Yes! I finally have something interesting to write about and post.
First off, I have officially graduated as posted on my transcript! However, I learned that I will NOT be receiving Magna Cum Laude, but just Cum Laude... I was like "WHAT??" and went all over the place finding out what happened. So here is what happened:
To get magna cum laude in my school, you need at least a 3.5 so when I went back to school there, I calculated what the highest honors I would be able to get if I got all As etc. I asked a million times how they calculate graduations honors and thus calculated my grade. I then busted my ass getting As in everything, even while working nights doing some heavy labor in the heat of the summer. So when I finished and all my As were in, I was waiting to see magna cum laude on my transcript. So when I saw cum laude I went to the registrar to find out what THEY did wrong. Turns out that the GPA I calculated included plus and minus because my school now uses a plus and minus system. So some of my transfer credits were B+ etc. Turns out that the registrar DOES NOT use the plus minus system to calculate the final GPA. not using the plus minus system brought my final GPA down to a 3.48 which is 0.02 points shy of magna cum laude.... do you see why I am annoyed? If they would have told me that they only take transfer credits without plus minus, I'd have taken an extra class or two to bring my GPA up. I was very annoyed. All that hard work for naught. Why? Because if I'd have done less work and got all B's, I'd have got cum laude ANYWAY. What are all these As going to do for me now? Now it looks as though my school is real tough and to get a measly cum laude you need at 3.7 (thats my school gpa, not my "final" gpa). PFFT! Well, at least I get a damn cord. I am mad about this because I KNOW i could have got Magna Cum Laude if I had squeezed in a couple more classes in like music or something. Ugh! That's City College for you...
In other School news, I went to the "graduate Salute" thinking Id get my cap and gown so I can get my pictures taken already.. WRONG! I drove all the way (18 miles one way) over there to get a piece of paper telling when I can get my gown... what?? This school... I swear... ANYWAY, to make matters worse, I can't even get four tickets. This year they changed the rules around and now each person gets two tickets and if they want two more (only) they have to come on ANOTHER day and see if there are any tickets left. WHAT?? o now who the hell am I supposed to invite? I overheard that if you want to bring more people, they will have to stand all the way in the back where they can't see shit. Nice. That's City College for you.
I can't wait 'till it's over...
(HA! Only to contemplate getting a second degree from them in computer sci or something so I can have a ton of job options in Fedex, oh go figure, it will never end.)
Next in the news lineup is my trip to Yale to check out their school of management (but it was really for the city to see if there is a lot of business and places to live). Well, that went bust. Let's just say I crossed Yale/New Haven off the list. I feel bad though, I was real attracted to Yale. However, the city was so barren and not like in a nice desert kind of barren. There was hardly and businesses that looked liked they shipped Fedex and all the places to live nearby looked run down. I mean, why the hell would I try so hard to do well on a test to get into a school that I would nothing to do in the city. I was thinking I'd go into "transportation" (trucking, ahem) and New Haven had nothing to offer in that department. I was thinking I could just transfer to the New Haven Fedex station but it turns out that they don't pick up much (less than the station I work at) and its not even in New Haven its in North Haven! The hell! Even their Wal-Mart blew. I was so mad about the whole experience because I wore my best clothes and spent a week and a half looking for damn "yale pants" and this too was all for naught.
The only thing good I can say about this trip is that I at least have a clearer direction as to where I'd like to go. I have a feeling Im going to wind up staying in New York and doing what I need to do here.
Next in news is that I am currently persuing a job advancement, but only after I get my CDL. Whoo hoo!!
Other than that, I have no other news that seems important. So click on this to go to the page that currently posted my Yale video. I hope to change it to my Travelougue page later on. You can also scroll down on the page to see my odometer change to 100,000 miles!
