Now I Is Scared

Yesterday was my lab midterm and it wasn't too bad. I think I got a couple wrong though. However, in class, she is steamrolling through the chapters and I am now just getting scared enough to start studying like before. We have another quiz tomorrow on stuff I havent read so I can't dissappoint my professor and make my self look stupid!! Lucky me though, she asked a question in class and apparently called on the two people who scored an A on the first exam (me and someone else) and I was theone who got it right! HAHAHA! I rule! So now I see that she will probably call on me for stuff so I have to stay ahead so I don't get any worng answers!!! That would be very bad.

So I am trying to finish up this chapter tonight then I will wake up early to start the next chapter because it will be on the quiz. I need every point possible in case I totally bomb the ACS final. I shouldnt but I cant predict.

Okay back to work! I will have to start dinner soon...

Laff Riot!

Of course, when the printer knows its imminent doom, it decides to print in black!

Well, I tried one last attempt to fix it and it worked this time! But now its late and I want to go to bed. I guess I should study in the morning. This test shouldn't be too hard, the labs are pretty straight forward, I think. I got the hard part memorized which is the formulas for the extractions, so what else could there be that is so hard? I dunno, but I hope I don't have to find out!

The End Of The Line

For my printer of 4+ years. It started to print stupid a while ago but only a month or so ago it stopped printing in black. I thought I could manage just printingin grey but I can't really print anything off the internet (including my assignments) because everyone posts their stuff in pdf format and I cant load it into word to change the font color to grey. So this has gone on long enough. I decided that I will setup my new printer and try to extract the ink from my old printers into the new cartridges when they get empty. I figured that is better than trying to sell them on Amazon for $5 when they are worth much more.

So here goes! (as you can see Im not studying feverishly)...

Jane Dee Genius Is BACK!!

Thats right! I got a 99 on my first OCHM test! WOW!

Let's hope it stays that way because tomorrow I have my lab midterm!

In other news, I am still setting up my new computer with all new gadgets and software. This should end soon and then, the real webpage updating shall begin. I purchased an HP iPAQ (yes I know, I hate HP but other than DELL, no one else makes pocket PCs anymore and I am not going to spend $$$$$$$$$$+++++ on a stupid blackberry... or a stupid DELL) to replace my Palm m500 from 2001 or whatnot. Seems like nothing is compatable with windows 7. I am also going to buy a new Wacom Craft tablet and that comes with PSE 7 and Painter 4, so I don't have to buy that. Then I am going to buy MS Office 10 and Sound Forge 10 using my student discount! Hurray school!

Our new fridge is working good. Now it seems like the washer is going out too! I think someone out there cursed my appliances! Dammit! I will return the favor! So we may have to spend another $$$ on a washer. Sigh. By the time the year is up, we will have no cash...

So its less than two months until I register for that MCAT in March! Ooh scary isnt it?

Still havent got the jeep fixed. I supposed I shouldnt wait too much longer. I don't want to get stuck without a car!

And Maricopa FINALLY got back to me about the volunteer position BUT they gave me a time that would conflict next semester with my class! So now I have to refuse. I didnt know when the next class would be so when I checked, I saw that my professor is only going to teach Tuesday Thursday during the day! Oh no! Oh well. I do have an interview lined up at Scottsdale health and you know what, I just found out that they have family medicine residencies AND that those residents are from Ross, St. Matthews and AUC. Im impressed. So I would much rather volunteer there because they would be a top choice to choose a residency from. I think that would be awesome. But of course, getting a family medicine residency at Alaska would be real cool too! We'll see. Im not even applying yet, hahaha!

I guess I should be getting back to my studies... I am reviewing for tomorrows test and reading up on the next chapter. Should be funsies!

So this stupid calculator I got from TJ DOESNT WORK!! Dammit, I knew I should have brought my backup calculators. Ughhhh, and watch we will have percent composition on the test and now I have to do all this math on paper!!!

stupid crap...

EW GROSS

Some guy in this library just sneezed some boogers into his hand, looked at it, then shook it onto the floor! BARF!!

I guess I will wait a bit before I eat lunch...

Only Seven Hours To Go

Ive been in school since 5:50am.... My class starts at 5:50...PM.

So its a long day but Ive already done my MCAT cards for organic and I am about to go over some stuff in the ACS book.

Then I can study some more.

Then some more...

Oh well. I better get the jeep fixed then!

Still Studying

Im getting there. I will be at school extra early so I can study all day. I think next time I should tell her to make our exams Wednesday so that it doesnt conflict with all the lab crap we have to do.

So tomorrow is my first real organic chemistry test! Im also going to get my id tomorrow so I can get student discounts, hehehe. So I hope all goes well.

Time seems to be moving well. I still havent heard back from any volunteer places. Oh well. I guess I will try to shadow some doctors or something. Or volunteer at the library. What sucks is that I may get a position at one of the hospitals and then it will conflict with nest semesters class. Part two of this class is not offered on Monday and Wednesday with the prof I have now so I will have to take the Tuesday Thursday class! I guess we'll see what happens!

Okay back to work. I have to make dinner soon...

I Score Higher In Tetris When "Yakety Sax" Plays In The Background

Ive been playing Chemist Tetris although I thought the tetris pieces would be blocks from the periodic table. Anyway, I noticed I score much higher when "Yakety Sax" plays in the background. I guess its spatial thinking music?

Anyway, I HATE LABS!

Ive been working for hours on this crap. UGHHHH. I didnt even get to study for the test on Monday yet!

And I still havent got a response from Maricopa. What's taking so long? Oh well, who knows.

Now back to tetris...

We Have Refridgeration!

Finally, I am back in the modern era. The fridge came today and it is very nice. They even took away my old fridge. Even nicer!

So TJ is going to bid on a new route at work. I say go for it! I know he is tired of his route and I don't blame him. I never liked that route when I covered it. I feel bad that he has to work so hard and get sore just to make extra money. I know that thankfully he has been getting the extra money because we had just spent a ton on the vacaction, weed wacker, computer, printer, software, the fridge and pretty soon the fixing the jeep, and getting a lawn mower, a new shelf and probably new tires for the acura. It just all seems to be coming at once! ARGH! Well, after this month, I hope all the spending will cease. I am just keeping my fingers crossed that nothing else breaks...

My first ochm exam is on Monday! I havent got cracking at it yet, but it should be easy because its only on chapters 1 - 3. These are the chapters I have studied anyway. So far, Ive been doing well on my quizzes so I should be okay. I have to do my lab report too. I hate lab! I know I said that before... Anyway, I think this first test should go well which is good because it should be the easiest. I need every point I can get!!!

Right now, I was checking my inbox for word about the volunteer position at Maricopa. She had said youd know by Friday, but I assumed that if youwaited until Friday then you werent going to get an acceptance. Well, whatever. If I don't get any volunteer positions, maybe I will get a small part time job? TJ was mentioning that you can get discounts and I was like, hm yeah! I can work at whole foods or something? Just to get discounts on food? Or walmart! ooh that would be interesting... maybe. We'll see.

But I definately need to shower. I was up at 5:30 and need to refresh before I study!

What A Stupid Weekend!

Our refridgerator broke! I noticed a funny noise from the fridge and thought something was wrong but figured it was nothing. After a few hours I went to get an ice cream and it was all melted! So at 1am, I was hoping there would be one freezer left to buy from walmart (they had sold out of them at the one by my house) so I drove to the one in Mesa and WOW! there was ONE left. So we bought it and salvaged most of the food. The next day We bought bags of ice and used our coolers (three of them) to store the milk and such. I ordered a new fridge, reluctantly, and spent almost $800 (!!!) on a Maytag. Now apparently that is a good deal. Whatever! I have no choice do I? I cant live out of ice boxes!

Then I saw the credit card bill from out Alaska trip = HOLY CRAP. Well, it was supposed to be our last big trip before I go to medical school. Hopefully, that is the case. I will goto medical school, even if it is in the Caribbean.

On Saturday I went to the scool library to use their bandwidth to upload all my pictures to my webpage. I left at the last minute and still didnt finish! When I came home, I started to work with another webpage gallery program I downloaded and I think I am going to buy this one because it actually works. They also offer a service where they will make a custome template that matches your webpage for about $20. Neat! This is them here, Easy Website Photo Gallery. I even figured out how to link my videos to my pictures! Hooray!!

The problem is that now that I decided I want to use this program, all those picrures I uploaded are not useful because this program creates its own folders and thumbnails.... ugh!!! So Id have to create each page and upload them separately anyway! What a waste of time... or is it a learning experience?

Speaking of learning experiences, I hate lab! I (we) are always the last to leave. If Im not spilling crap on myself, then we are not boiling our stuff fast enough. Todays lab apparently was that we didnt crank the heat all the way up and that set up back long enough to be last again! Im just not fond of lab. And the lab books are torture, Ive never done labs like this so I am not as fast with them. Of course, on some things we have to be very explicit and then on others they don't care. Well which one is it? Ughh. My labs always turn out to be 10 pages long too. I just dont know how to shorten it. Well, we'll see how she grades this one. She said she would be lienient on the first two then screw all of you after that. Sigh. And I don't know if the lab is a separate grade or not. I hope its not, but I have a feeling it is. Hmm.

Then today everyone was sick in the lab. I feel like my throat is sore but only a little and I hope it doesnt get any worse. Tomorrow I have an "info session" at Scottsdale health, but its not an interview, Id have to come back for that. Phooey! Now I have to wait and wait to see if anyone wants to take me. If no one wants to give me a volunteer position then I will just go to the horse ranch or something. I cant waste all this time for nothing.

Otherwise, I can get a job! If I can secure anything by the end of this month, I cant apply to anymore because I cant give six months. I will be going to NY for two weeks in January and I will be applying to schools. Not that its going to be "too much" for mr to handle, its just that if I were to get a recommendation without completeing my six months, would it be harder? Maybe. Maybe I should just volunteer at the library or something. Well, we'll see. Maricopa hasnt gotten back to me yet. They will get to everyone by Friday. I assume that if it takes that long then they don't really want you. Hm.

I guess its time for bed!

Still Searching

Slowly but surely, I am getting my webpage updated after a million years!! I am uploading pictures as we speak! However, I am still searching for a good gallery script/program. Ive come across this whilst looking through the webpages of an old classmate who also likes to take lots of pictures (many of which are quite good). So I checked out his sources and this was the best so far. I will download the trial when I am done uploading this folder. I am keeping my fingers crossed.

In other news, I had one interview yesterday at Maricopa Health and it wasn't the tops. It was a group interview and I don't think the interviewer was that interested in my answers, especially since I had to constantly use Fedex examples. But I could be wrong and maybe its because I was the only female in the room wearing a black suit? I hope so. Anyway, I have an interview at Scottsdale next week and hopefully I will get both positions but one would be good. I am thinking that I should have volunteered at the horse therapy place after all.

Which makes me wonder something: why am I volunteering at all? I think I have enough experiences to draw on considering I have been working for 13 years which is almost half of my life and Im not even 30!!!! Oh well, its an unwritten law of sorts that you have to volunteer. I am worried that I will not get any volunteer positions and I will look even more "non-traditional" every day that passes by. This makes Ross U. more and more the likely place. Well, if it is, Im ready!

And so much for volunteering at the Salt River place. I called them and asked about opportunities and she told me that Id have to go through the main hospital etc etc and then apply to this place. So I went online to find any forms and whatnot and there are none to be found. What a bummer! So now Im down to Maricopa, Scottsdale, maybe a couple more hospitals and then on to cold-calling doctors or mailing out my resume. What an annoying process. And I wrote this elaborate cover page for the Salt River place and everything. Sheesh. Well, hopefully I will find something.

In the meantime, I am making my first loaf of bread in my very own bread machine! I will post the final product when its finished (soon!!) I had to add some water to their recipe, so hopefully it will turn out okay. I can kinda smell it now...

A Short Day

After my very long weekend, I only have class for an hour today! Our homework is due and its the same homework from the summer that I already completed. So I have a couple hours before class and I will recopy it and submit it.

This class is going well enough. She gives a lot of work but thats okay. We should be finishing chapter 2 and starting chapter 3 today. I had started chapter four, so this weekend I will finally start studying again. Our first test is in a couple of weeks and that should go well. I need to do the best I can on it so I have some kind of buffer in case I need it for another test.

Tomorrow I have an interview at Maricopa for a volunteer position. I just need to print out some stuff an I am set. My printer finally started to break down. The black doesnt work anymore. It only started this after I opened up a fresh new pack of ink. So now, I will use up my color and print in grey and I will extract the black ink from the new cartridge and fill an old blue one I have. That way I can at least use up all my ink before throwing it out. I already bought a new printer, but I will use every drop of ink I can before I get rid of it. It may take a while. I have two more canisters to go through!!!

Lou emailed me about hearing an ad for Ross on the radio. Im glad places like Ross exist because it gives me hope for medical school. I don't care what the naysayers say about it. If it didnt exist, Id have almost a zero percent chance of getting to med school. I will try for Arizona, but I have no shame about going to Ross either.

So all weekend I was trying to find a way to make posting the pictures of my past trips easier. I found none. So it will just have to come down to many hours uploading and moving and cropping manually. It makes no difference if I edit them on some html script, I would still have to edit them and make thumbnails then create tags for each and every picture. I have hundreds. So either way, its not going to be fun and it will take much time. But I plan on doing it. But I will do it with the editor Ive been using because it makes no difference.

Its 3pm! Better get moving on that homework.

It's September Already!

And its Labor Day weekend. Luckily, I have Monday off and don't have a lab this week and don't have class until Wednesday. Hurrah!!

Anyway, I worked all day yesterday and today but I finally finished my new resume, my new cover letter and answered all the questions for the volunteer position and printed out the LORs for the volunteer stuff.

Yesterday was a nightmare trying to get my printer to work. Ive had it for about four years now, and the black is not printing at all. So I changed the cartridge and that didnt work. I tried to clean it, to pump air in, pump air out, but its not working. So, after about five hours of getting nowhere, I decided to print all my documents in "grey" and print out my new resume and cover letters with the other printer and get a new multifunction printer this weekend because of all the sales. Of course, none of the new printers use my old style cartridges, so I have to use up all the color cartridges I have and scrap the brand new black one I have, unless I can get it to fit into one of the color slots...? We'll see.

So I havent been studying super hard with organic trying to get all thsi volunteer nonsense organized. But its okay because I had made my way to chapter four from the summer and I have been doing well on my quizzes. This week I will start to get busy on reviewing that stuff because I finished this resume and all that. I do plan to drive to the Salt River place and ask about me shadowing there. I prepared a cover letter just for them too. I don't know what to wear though. It has to be something friendly, but serious. I don't want to wear my suit. I will think of something. All my clothes should fit me a bit looser because of all the weight I lost (28 POUNDS so far!!) so I have more options to choose from.

I guess tomorrow I will buy the printer. I went today but it was closed (at 6pm) when I got there (at 618pm). Oh well. If I cant get it then, maybe I will buy it online. Or wait. Who knows.

Then tomorrow when I come back I will cook some hotdogs and do my lab report and homework. I think its the same exact homework she gave to us when she was covering Silberman. I will see. I hope she doesnt mind it being printed out in "grey" or "navy." Ha!

Other than that everything else seems to be going well. I found a script to post pictures on my webpage more efficiently than I have been doing this whole time. I also want to get rid of some pictures on there. As I look at them, they are not as interesting anymore. I would definately like to change some things on that webpage. I should get started on that when I finish trying to go around to get some shadowing gigs or perhaps earlier. Maybe even this weekend! I won't get my hopes up.

Hm I wonder if we will have a quiz Wednesday. Well, I should prepare as if we were.

I guess Im off to bed. Im pretty tired and had a headache all day.

Bought Some Stuff

And not everything is great! I just bought the new Sharpie Liquid Pencil, and boy am I disappointed. It kinda writes like a crappy 99 cent store pen. It erases really well though. You can erase it with your fingers before it dries. However, it doesn't look like pencil, so Im not sure how this is equivalent to #2 lead, but okay. I was hoping for a better product. I think I was expecting the "ink" to be shiny like graphite, and more grey, not black. It looks just like ink and it doesn't blend like pencil. You cant write soft or heavy, just one setting like a ballpoint pen. I mean it IS a ballpoint pen, just a weird one. The ink globs up too, like a cheap pen. You also have to hold the pen 100% vertical to get the best ink flow. I guess that is good for me because I hold my pen almost 100% vertical. However, I think most normal people hold their pens at an angle, and if you do, the ink will not flow correctly. Im going to give it a shot in class next week, but if it doesn't work out, I will send some very negative comments over to Sanford about making such a crappy product.

In other news, week two of my new organic class is over and I think I did well on this last quiz. I saw my Professor today about how to do the lab reports. Ive never done lab reports like how she wants it, so I am lost. She explained it pretty well, so the next lab report should be good. Im glad Im in her class, she is a MUCH better professor than you-know-who.

I also have to work on my LOR for my volunteer positions and finish up my resume. I hope things work out for me or hello Ross U!

Ive also been trying to work on my webpage, but the program Yahoo uses doesn't work too well on Windows 7. I have to see if my old frontpage works. Im not too sure how Im going to do all this, but I at least I've picked photoshop and now its a toos up between getting a new tablet or just buying painter essentials and using my old tablet. Decisions decisions.

Right now, I think Im going to finish up my Resume and LORs since there is no school on Monday!
